Subject: Your Health Plan Options – Recommendation and Details Inside

Hi [Client First Name],

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help guide you through your health insurance decision.

I’ve attached your quote(s) for review, but I want to emphasize that a quote is just the starting point — what really matters is choosing a plan strategy that fits your business goals and employee needs. That’s where I can help.

My Recommendation

Based on your group size, location, and goals, I recommend the following approach:

Carrier: [Insert recommended carrier, e.g., Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas]
Plan Strategy: [e.g., Offer multiple plan options, with an HMO base plan to control employer cost]

Notes:

  • [e.g., This carrier offers a broad statewide network and allows you to offer up to 6 plans.]

  • [e.g., Offering an HSA-compatible option may appeal to cost-conscious employees.]

Let me know if you’d like to explore a different structure — there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, and I’m happy to tailor recommendations further.

Carrier Snapshot

Here’s a quick overview of your options in the Texas small group market:

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX)

  • Offers up to 6 plans for employee choice

  • Statewide HMO network with strong provider access

  • Competitive pricing on both HMO and PPO plans

  • Allows “group of one” enrollment (so does UHC)

Baylor Scott & White (BSW)

  • Allows up to 3 plan options

  • Often more competitive on PPOs

  • Offers open access HMO plans with no referral requirements

  • Ideal for clients already using BSW doctors and hospitals

  • Smaller network than BCBSTX

UnitedHealthcare (UHC)

  • A third option, but usually less competitive on pricing

  • Also allows group-of-one enrollment

Other Carriers

  • Memorial Hermann offers fully-insured plans in a few counties around Houston

  • Allstate Health Solutions offers small group coverage but has a smaller network and less competitive pricing

  • Unfortunately, Aetna and Humana have exited the fully-insured small group market in Texas

Strategy Tips

Most of our clients choose to:

  • Offer multiple plans to give employees flexibility

  • Use a lower-cost HMO as the base plan to reduce the required employer contribution

  • Include an HSA-compatible plan as a smart, tax-advantaged option

Let me know if you’d like to go over the quote details together or have questions about any of the options. I’m happy to hop on a call or send a follow-up summary.

Thanks again for trusting me with this important decision.

Best regards,
